THE PROBLEM WITH APP COMPANIES IS - THEY FAIL TO MAINTAIN THE APP - WE HAVE LITTLE OR NO CONTROL OVER THEM & EVENTUALLY THEY ALL GET TIRED OF GOOGLE AND APPLE CODE DEMANDS AND CHANGES [not to mention the $99/pa Apple charges just to list your app. & the fact that Google will terminate accounts if just one app. with that company is using 'stolen' graphics or streaming 'illegal' content and the like] ......at which point they terminate our apps. We're no longer prepared to cover the cost, switch companies and put up with the hassles.
THE SOLUTION FOR US IS ........ create a shortcut in 3 simple steps - that looks and behaves just like an app. This is VERY easy to do and we've tested this on the technophobes in our circles who've also managed it - instructions below.
Our website is optimised for mobile browsing and we've been able to give it a proper app feel with some tweaks; though the only page that's currently specifically edited for mobile browsing is the home page because that's where most mobile users are likely to stay in order to access the player and track listings.
We've spent some time altering the mobile site so that the home page is uncluttered and easy to access. The benefits are that this has allowed us total control and any website updates are automatically added to and optimised for the app.
Some of you will already be aware of how easy it is to create an app from a website [essentially a shortcut]. For those who are not aware we're going to give you the easy steps you'll need in order to create your own OCEAN RADIO CHILLED app no matter whether you use Android or iOS and probably all other operating systems.
So, if you want to continue listening to our music on the go and you don't want the ads you get on, say, TuneIn, you can create this short cut and apart from the appearance the functions are virtually the same as our bespoke iOS and Android apps. Check it out and you'll be amazed how easy it is to do! You can also do this for iPads and other pads but in our experience it brings up the actual website instead of the mobile one. Still at least it does it faster than having to type in the website each time.
These images are taken from a YouTube tutorial on an iPhone but the steps are the same using Android.
From your mobile phone go to
When on the website look at the bottom of your smartphone screen for this upload sign and click on it
Once it's uploaded you should see this or similar list of options - you want to click on - ADD TO HOME SCREEN
NOW SCROLL TO THE END OF YOUR LIST OF APPS AND YOU SHOULD SEE THE OCEAN RADIO CHILLED ICON.
Click on that and it should now open the mobile version of our website with the player and track list - click on the player and you should be hearing the stream. You can access the rest of the website from the menu at the top right.
